A Time For Renewal
Many have pointed out that U2.com membership renewal notices have started. When I logged in, I found one waiting for me as well. As an early-adopter of U2.com, I joined while the site was still classified in beta mode. Many were as enthusiastic as I was. As a result, we get the notices before the fanclub is ready to make the official annoucement of the fanclub “thank you” gift.
According to the thread on the Zootopia boards, the announcement of the “thank you” gift will be made towards the end of November/ early December…which is when U2.com officially went live to the masses. According to one of the Zootopia members, U2.com’s admin mentioned that those early adopters of U2.com who get the renewal notice with the same “thank you” gift announcement as the year before will have this issue annually.
From the sounds of things, the notification is auto-generated by the fine folks at Fanfire - thus the reason why this will always be a problem for fans. But, fear not…the U2.com admin said there will be a different gift for ‘08-’09 renewals…so, hold tight.
My advice: wait until the last minute to renew. You have 30 days from when the announcement is given. If there’s still issues with the thank you gift, folks are being advised to contact Fanfire directly and sort it out.
Personally, as this has been happening for several years now, you’d think there would be an easier solution…namely have all the ducks in a row ahead of time and when the first round of renewals occur, make the annoucement - you *know* the early adopters are your more die-hard fans - why inconvenience and annoy them? It’s not like this is a new issue.
A gal can dream, eh?
