U2 Songs for Weddings

I have a very good friend who’ll be joining his sweetheart in marriage in August. He’s asked me to come up with a list of good U2 songs to be played at the wedding. For my wedding a few years back, we had the “Strung Out on U2″ disc playing prior to the ceremony. People who [...]

Comparison Gigging

From time to time, I indulge in the guilty pleasure of going to gigs by artists other than U2. I know, seems like I’m cheating on Hitman and Sparky, but heck - they don’t tour as much as this fan would like. Sunday night, my husband and I went to the Mohegan Sun casino in lovely [...]

Bill Carter and His New Book

Tonight I was fortunate enough to attend a book reading/signing with Miss Sarajevo director Bill Carter. U2 fans will remember him as the guy who organized the satellite link-ups from the Bosnian War to the Zoo TV tour, and the author of Fools Rush In, which recounts that part of his life. His new book, Red Summer, [...]

Covering U2

The David Cook “ISHFWILF” cover got me thinking - what do you think is the best U2 song covered by another musician? My vote - Mary J. Blige’s version of “One.” A close second is Cook’s cover. I feel that in both of these cases, the cover version matched, if not surpassed, Bono’s vocals on [...]

Ride the U2 Subway in Vienna

No, it’s not really named for the band (and as far as I know doesn’t play U2 songs exclusively along the trip), but there is a new subway line extension in Vienna that has been created to move the city more rapidly to the Ernst Happel football stadium. If you’re a football fan who is interested [...]

Ain’t This The Sweetest Thing…

I was just looking at the Amazon.com book page, and saw a discussion started by U2Kitteh, which includes this:

As a true diehard U2 fan, Matt knows exactly what U2 fans want and U2 Diary is sure to become an important staple in every fan’s collection. Promising to be packed with tons of information that fans are itching to commit to memory, U2 Diary sounds like it will hit the spot! Can’t wait!!

(That’s just some of the post. Here’s the full thing.)

Wow! Thanks, U2Kitteh — that’s the sweetest thing. I hope the book lives up to your expectations!

Worst Lyric List

In my opinion, these are some of the worst one-line lyrics in U2’s discography (in no order) 1) I’ll do the maximum time for you tonight (Love You Like Mad) 2) The air is heavy, heavy like a truck (Electrical Storm) 3) Grace, it’s the name for a girl (Grace) What other one-line lyrics would you add to this [...]

If Only…

…you were able to book talent for your local college campus now using the prices of yesteryear! We sort of know that U2 rakes in a guaranteed amount of rediculous moohlah with any concert performance. Thinking back to the War tour, how cheap do you think it would have been for colleges to book [...]

April, You’re So Cruel

April is National Poetry Month here in the U.S. Yeah, it’s still April for about 48 more hours. T. S. Eliot’s opening lines from “The Wasteland” are April is the cruelest month, breeding Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing Memory and desire, stirring Dull roots with spring rain. That’s one main reason for why the [...]

Round 3: Name That Photo

You guys are so good at this, we’re gonna do it again. Sarah at Omnibus has sent me a bunch of photos that don’t have a date. These might be included in U2: A Diary, but we really need to know when (and where, if possible) the pictures were taken.

Some of these are quite obvious in general — “Oh, that’s the Joshua Tree Tour” — but we need to be as specific as possible so photos can be placed at the right spot in the diary/timeline.

If you can help us narrow down the dates on any of these photos, please reply in the comments of this post. And be sure to include the FILENAME so I know which photo you’re talking about.

Sound good?

Here they are: http://www.u2diary.com/pix1/

Thanks in advance!

More Clarence memories

Following on from Cara’s post about the Clarence, here’s the story of why Dublin is one of my favorite cities on the planet. In 2001, my partner and I went to Dublin for a few days. We stayed at the Clarence, drank in the Octagon, and ate an enormous meal one night in the restaurant [...]
